Is a man's marriage to his relative Islamically valid, knowing that she had an illicit relationship with another person before the marriage? And is what she did considered to remove her from being a woman of religious commitment? And what should the man do with the person who violated his relative's honor?

The girl must repent and seek forgiveness for the sinful relationship. It would have been better for her to conceal her actions and not disclose what she had done, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All of my Ummah are safe except for the Al-Mujahirin (those who make their sins public)." If the girl repents, there is no need to divorce her, because repentance erases what came before it, and the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin. Her having committed a sin and repented from it does not exclude her from being righteous, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All the children of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent." The husband must hold on to his wife and dismiss from his mind what occurred from her, as long as she is upright. He must beware of mentioning that to others, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever conceals [the fault of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal his [fault] on the Day of Resurrection." The same applies to the other young man.
