What is the evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah for the permissibility of praying in tight-fitting clothes?

The gist of the fatwa: None of the renowned Imams (scholars) said that prayer in tight clothing is invalid. Rather, Al-Nawawi reported that the opinion of its invalidity is a view among the Shafi'is, and he described it as an "obvious error." The default for the validity of prayer is that it is sound and does not require proof, whereas the claim of its invalidity requires religious evidence. The Imams forbade blind following (taqleed) and also forbade saying something that no one had said before. The jurists of the madhhabs (schools of thought) did not understand from the hadiths of Umm Salamah and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them) that prayer in tight clothing is invalid if it does not reveal the skin.
