What is the correct way to raise the hands in prayer?

It is sunnah for the worshiper to raise the hands in prayer in four instances: with the opening takbeer (takbeerat al-ihram), when bowing (ruku'), when rising from bowing, and when standing up from the first tashahhud. The hands should be raised parallel to the shoulders or the earlobes.
