Why doesn't God punish those who live in forbidden ways, despite their actions?

Allah grants respite to the oppressor. If he repents, it is a mercy for him; but if he persists, it is a gradual enticement (leading to his doom). However, Allah does not neglect him. Once He seizes him, He does not let him go. This is supported by the hadith: "Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Most High, gives respite to the oppressor until, when He seizes him, He does not let him go." And by the Almighty's saying: (And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe). It is not permissible for a woman to remain with a husband who openly commits sins and wickedness. Her divorce from him is better for her, and Allah will compensate her with someone better than him, because her remaining with him might corrupt her religion and her worldly life. The husband is obligated to spend on his children and provide for their needs. Those who commit sins are not in bliss; rather, they live in torment, distress, anxiety, loneliness, and darkness in their hearts because of their sins, even if they praise their own condition out of arrogance and stubbornness.
