Can the current situation be rectified and a sincere repentance begun, knowing that I have committed major sins, married a non-Muslim foreigner after she became pregnant with a daughter whom I detest, sometimes forget the number of rak'ahs in prayer, and contemplate killing the daughter to separate from the wife and begin repentance alone?

The devil's whisper to kill the innocent girl is a temptation to commit a major sin after polytheism. Islam has forbidden marriage to non-Scriptural women, and therefore, the questioner's marriage to this woman is invalid. A child from an illegitimate marriage is attributed to the father if he believed in its validity, but a child born of fornication is attributed to the mother.

For repentance:

- Allah forgives sins, no matter how great, for those who repent. "O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins filling the earth, and then you were to meet Me without associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness filling it."

- Initiating repentance before death.

- Changing one's environment and companions to a righteous one that helps in doing good deeds.

- Forgetting a prayer is an excuse; whoever forgets it or sleeps through it must perform it when he remembers it.

- Whoever forgets the number of rak'ahs should base it on the least number, complete it, and perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud as-sahw) before the salutation.

- Obligatory prayers must be performed and not taken lightly.

- One must leave the woman with whom he has no legitimate bond and offer sincere repentance to Allah.
