Is it permissible for someone to swear by God to fulfill their request?

It is not permissible to swear by Allah Almighty using phrases such as "I adjure You, O Lord" or similar, because its meaning implies the servant obligating his Lord, and this diminishes Tawhid (monotheism). What has been narrated from the Salaf might be in the context of supplication. As for the noble Hadith, "Indeed, there are among Allah's servants those who, if they were to swear by Allah, He would fulfill their oath," it means that Allah answers their supplication, while knowing that they would not dare to swear by their Lord.
