The difference between courage (shaja'a) and boldness (jarā'ah): Courage is a disposition of the faculty of anger between recklessness and cowardice, by which one undertakes matters that ought to be undertaken. It is a virtue between the two vices of cowardice and recklessness. It is often attributed to the wise person and is only mentioned in the context of praise. As for boldness, it is undertaking and courage, and it is more general than courage. It is attributed to both the wise and others, and it is mentioned in contexts of both praise and blame.
