Is pork impure, and what is the evidence for that from the Qur’an and Sunnah?
Scholars have differed regarding the impurity of the pig. The majority of jurists hold that it is impure, whether alive or dead. Their evidence is the Almighty's saying: "for it is an abomination (Rijs)," and that "Rijs" refers to impurity. Some scholars also inferred the impurity of its essence by analogy with the dog.
Conversely, some jurists maintain that the pig is pure in essence as long as it is alive; its body, saliva, and sweat are therefore pure.
Ibn al-Mundhir reported the consensus of scholars on the impurity of the pig, but Al-Nawawi clarified that the Maliki school of thought holds the pig to be pure as long as it is alive, and that there is no clear evidence for the impurity of the pig.
