The texts permit borrowing from people, and the Holy Quran condemned those who withhold al-ma'un. Ibn Mas'ud and Ibn Abbas interpreted al-ma'un as the lending of a pot, a bucket, and similar items, which indicates the permissibility of asking for them. It is also authentically reported that Ka'b ibn Malik borrowed two garments, which demonstrates the permissibility of borrowing. Thus, whoever needs something is permitted to ask people for it.
