Al-Dhahabi mentioned that Ammar ibn Yasir and Suhayb embraced Islam after entering Dar al-Arqam, and that Suhayb was tortured along with a group of Muslims for their conversion. He stated that they uttered words of disbelief, except for Bilal, whereupon the verse descended concerning them: "Then, indeed, your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been persecuted, and then fought and were patient—indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful" (An-Nahl: 110).

Ibn Hajar mentioned that when Suhayb emigrated, he left his wealth to the polytheists in exchange for his safety, whereupon the verse descended concerning him: "And among the people is he who sells himself, seeking means to the approval of Allah" (Al-Baqarah: 207).

Al-Humaidi and Al-Tabarani narrated from Suhayb that he did not miss any of the Prophet's expeditions, peace and blessings be upon him, and was always by his side, or in front of him, or behind him.
