What is the ruling on working in a gift shop that contains Pharaonic images, statues, and animal figurines, and what should I do about it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is forbidden to work as a tour guide or translator for tourists due to the mixing (of genders), pointing out evils, and glorifying the history of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). It is also impermissible to sell figurines of living beings or pictures. As for working in a gift shop, it is permissible, provided that no forbidden items are sold or assisted in their sale, with a preference for seeking another job free from proximity to evil. The doors to lawful sustenance are many, and a Muslim should fear Allah and strive, for "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
