What is the ruling on applying kohl and lipstick and then removing them, and what is the punishment for this act from Allah?

Allah the Almighty forbade believing women from displaying their adornments when leaving their homes, saying: "And do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance." Displaying oneself (tabarruj) includes showing one's beauty to men and adorning oneself for going out. He also forbade displaying hidden adornments by striking their feet, as He said: "And let them not strike their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah all of you, O believers, that you may succeed." These actions are disobedience that necessitates repentance, and the remedy is to strive against one's self to comply with Allah's commands and to remind oneself of Allah.
