How can a person repent while continuing to commit abominations, especially viewing forbidden images given the abundance of temptations before him, and fearing God's punishment?

Among the conditions for repentance is to cease from sin, abandon forbidden acts, or perform obligatory duties. The repentance of one who persists in sin is not accepted. Persistence in sins is caused by heedlessness or lust. The cure for heedlessness is knowledge and remembering the severe warnings for sinners found in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Sustenance may be withheld due to sin, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, a servant is deprived of provision in this world by a sin he commits." As for the cure for lust, it is to distance oneself from its inciting causes. One must repent to Allah with a complete repentance before it is too late. The praiseworthy fear of Allah is that which motivates its possessor to obey Allah and abandon what He has forbidden, not a transient fear that vanishes when its cause disappears.
