Is it permissible to recite specific Surahs, such as Al-Baqarah and Maryam, with the intention of conceiving, or is that considered an innovation (bid'ah)?

It is permissible to recite Qur'anic surahs such as Al-Baqarah and Maryam to intercede with them in supplication for pregnancy and other matters. The recitation of the Qur'an is among the greatest acts of proximity to Allah and the noblest deeds. Interceding with it to Allah Almighty for the fulfillment of needs is among the greatest means, for Allah says: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and seek the means [of nearness] to Him and strive in His cause that you may succeed" (Al-Ma'idah: 35). The exegetes stated that "the means" (al-wasilah) is drawing near to Him by performing what pleases Him. However, singling out these two surahs for seeking offspring has no basis reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him, nor from his companions. But if a person recites them based on the virtue of Surat Al-Baqarah in expelling sorcerers, and Allah's power mentioned in Surat Maryam concerning provision, then there is no harm in that.
