What is the ruling on the preacher saying from the pulpit on Friday that those in the first row consume unlawful earnings and that their fasting, charity, or night prayers will not benefit them, and that those in the last row are better than them, and is he permitted to generalize?

If the preacher targets specific individuals in his sermon, he has erred in generalizing and violated the Sunnah (definition) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding advising sinners. The Prophet used to say, "What is wrong with some people..." without direct address or defamation. It is impermissible to assert that their acts of worship will not benefit them due to committing some sins, for Allah is just. The preacher must invite to Allah with wisdom and good counsel, not with reprimand and defamation, as Allah Almighty says: "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction..." (An-Nahl: 125), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You must be gentle, and beware of violence." If the preacher does not cease this approach, his matter should be reported to the relevant ministry.
