Is it permissible to take pride in worldly matters—such as academic achievement, social relationships, wealth, or intelligence—or is pride reserved only for one's religion?

"Pride" means honor and glory. Whoever takes pride should take pride in the obedience of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), not in their wealth, intelligence, or status, because all glory belongs to Allah, and taking pride in anything other than Allah is falsehood. Taking pride in wealth, intelligence, and social connections is seeking glory from a mirage, for many of the wealthy, intelligent, and influential are humbled due to their disobedience to the command of Allah and His Messenger, and humiliation and abasement have been ordained for those who disobey His command.
