There is no harm in photographing what lacks a clear head and face, as it is not considered a true image. However, what depicts a head and torso is forbidden. Some scholars have permitted the depiction of living beings if they are incomplete in creation.

Drawing a complete, clear image with a line through the neck does not make the drawing permissible if the head has full features along with the body. However, if the head or half of the body is missing, such that its owner would not normally live without it, then it is permissible according to many scholars. They cited the action of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he commanded Aisha to cut up the garment containing images, so she made it into two cushions. They also cited the hadith of Gabriel, who commanded him to cut off the head of a statue to make it resemble a tree, and to cut up the curtain with images to make it into two cushions to be trodden upon.
