Is it permissible to spend from Zakat funds on the election campaigns of Islamic- التيار الإسلامي (Islamic Movement/Trend) candidates?

It is not permissible to disburse zakat (definition) except to the eight categories mentioned in verse 60 of Surat At-Tawbah (definition): "Indeed, [prescribed] charitable donations are only to be given to the poor and the needy, and to those who work on [collecting] them, and to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to [free] those in bondage, and to the debt-ridden, and for the cause of Allah, and to the wayfarer." Accordingly, it is not permissible to spend zakat funds on electoral campaigns for candidates.
