What should I do if my mother interrupts me during prayer – knowing the specified prayer times – do I wait until I am alone and pray again, or do I continue my prayer?

We congratulate you on being guided to Islam, and we remind you of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Islam began as something strange, and it will return as something strange, so blessed are the strangers." We advise you of the following:

1. Be gentle in your dealings with your family, using kind words and supplicating for their guidance. Avoid displaying anything that might provoke their anger or cause them to harm you. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded some of his companions to conceal their Islam for fear of harm.

2. Take advantage of the prayer times that extend until the entry of the second prayer's time. Choose suitable times that will not draw their attention, such as Fajr time, or when the house is empty, or when they are asleep. There is no harm in delaying the prayer from its earliest time.

3. If your mother knowing about your prayer will cause harm, then it is permissible for you to interrupt the prayer to avert her anger and harm, and then repeat it later. Try to gently inform her that you are praying and that it is not permissible to interrupt it.

4. It is permissible for you to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers, when there is difficulty or hardship to avoid harm or problems.
