What is the ruling on a wife saying to her husband: "You are forbidden to me until the Day of Judgment," because he drinks alcohol and frightens their children, and what is the ruling on their relationship thereafter, and what must she do if she wishes to continue her marriage?

It is forbidden for a Muslim woman to forbid her husband (from herself), and if she does so, she must offer expiation for breaking an oath. Her husband does not become forbidden to her. As for the husband, he must fear Allah and abstain from drinking alcohol, as it is a major sin. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, cursed alcohol and its drinker, and warned its drinker that Allah would make him drink from the mud of Khabaal. Let the husband remember that this worldly life is fleeting, and that he will be questioned about his wealth, his lifespan, and his youth, and that the ultimate return is to Allah.
