What is the ruling on writing verses from the Holy Qur’an in a vessel, then washing the vessel with water and drinking it for a sick person?

It is permissible to write verses from the Qur'an, then wash them off and drink the water. Some of the Salaf, such as Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, and Abu Qilabah, did this. Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that a group of the Salaf held this view, and Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Al al-Sheikh issued a fatwa permitting it.
