The answer

Selling gold for cash requires al-taqabud (mutual possession) at the time of the contract. Payment by ATM card is permissible if the price is immediately added to the seller's account. Some scholars do not stipulate al-taqabud for gold if it is jewelry, because it becomes a commodity through craftsmanship. Ibn al-Qayyim said: "Permissible jewelry, by virtue of permissible craftsmanship, becomes akin to clothes and commodities, not to currency." Since al-taqabud is realized in the aforementioned transaction, there is no harm in it, and the installment plan offered by the card issuer does not affect the transaction.
