Its punishment for a free, unmarried person is one hundred lashes and banishment for one year, while for a married person, it is stoning to death. The child born from the adultery of a married woman is not attributed to the adulterer; rather, he is attributed to her husband unless the husband disavows him through li'an (oath of condemnation), in which case his lineage is severed from the husband and remains solely with his mother.
