Is it considered unlawful to accept a scholarship from a company through "connections" (ma'rifa), and not based on skills or education?

If the company needs to send someone on a scholarship, the employee tasked with selecting the scholarship recipient must choose the most suitable person for the mission; otherwise, he would be a traitor and a deceiver. The scholarship recipient is not permitted to accept the scholarship if he knows that he is not qualified for it. However, if the company does not need the scholarship in the first place, this is an even greater betrayal. Allah has commanded the fulfillment of trusts and warned against betraying Allah, His Messenger, and trusts. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, linked the squandering of trusts to awaiting the Hour, and he mentioned that whoever deceives is not one of them, and that every guardian is responsible for his flock.
