What is the interpretation of the Almighty’s saying: (And the sun runs to its resting place. That is the decree of the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing)? And what is the meaning of “runs” in it? And does this contradict the Earth’s rotation around the sun? And did the supplication of one of the prophets affect its stopping?

"Tajri" (تجري) means the speed of movement. The hadith also indicates the sun's movement, and this does not contradict the Earth's rotation. The sun moves and "tajri" (جري), and the Earth moves and rotates; both are in an orbit. The Earth rotates on its own axis daily, causing the alternation of night and day, and it revolves around the sun annually, causing the alternation of seasons. The hadith narrated by Muslim about the sun being held back for Joshua (Yusha') is consistent with the sun's movement and is considered a miracle for him.
