The word "rasm" appears in Maliki books, such as: "rasm of purified benefit" (rasm al-fa'ida al-muzakkah), "rasm of tithes" (rasm al-'ushur), and "rasm of prayer" (rasm al-salat).

Al-Hattab explained in Mawahib al-Jalil that Al-Utbi collected "al-asmiah" (sayings of the imams) in notebooks, giving each notebook a title or a distinguishing label. Then, he organized Al-Utbiyyah (Al-Utbi's book) according to the chapters of fiqh, gathering issues related to each book from those notebooks. When he quoted an issue from a notebook, he would specify that notebook using the "rasm," which served as a chapter heading for the section.

So, if it is said: "rasm concerning what came regarding a man who buys a slave or other (property)," its meaning is "a chapter concerning what came regarding a man who buys a slave or other (property)."
