What is the ruling on parents dealing with their daughter with blame and reproach and seeking to force her to marry someone she does not desire; because of her outward appearance?

Parents should be reminded gently and kindly that their mockery of their daughter's appearance is impermissible, as all of Allah's creation is beautiful. Parents are not allowed to force their daughter to marry someone she does not desire, and there is no sin upon her for refusing. However, she should think objectively, seek Allah's guidance (istikharah), and consult those with sound judgment. If the suitor is a man of religion and good character, do not reject him, in compliance with the Prophet's (peace be upon him) recommendation. Otherwise, explain to your parents gently that he is unsuitable, and have a good opinion of Allah. You must honor your parents, treat them kindly, and be patient with their harm, seeking reward from Allah.
