Is it true that whoever recites four verses from the beginning of Surat Al-Baqarah, Ayat Al-Kursi, and three verses from its end will not experience anything disliked concerning himself or his property, nor will a devil approach him, nor will he forget the Qur’an?

The aforementioned Hadith is narrated as a saying attributed to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, with a disconnected chain of transmission (Isnad Munqati'), and it has not been authentically reported as a prophetic Hadith (Marfu'an) from the Prophet, peace be upon him. Al-Darimi and others narrated it with the wording: "Whoever recites four verses from the beginning of Surat Al-Baqarah, and Ayat Al-Kursi, and two verses after Ayat Al-Kursi, and three from the end of Surat Al-Baqarah, no devil shall come near him or his family that day, nor anything he dislikes, and they shall not be recited over one afflicted with madness except that he recovers." Its chain of transmission is disconnected because Al-Sha'bi did not hear directly from Ibn Mas'ud.

It was also narrated with another similar wording from Ibn Mas'ud: "Whoever recites ten verses from Surat Al-Baqarah in a house: no devil shall enter that house that night until morning, four verses from its beginning, and Ayat Al-Kursi, and two verses after it, and its concluding verses." Its chain of transmission is likewise disconnected.

As for the phrase "nor will he forget the Qur'an," it was narrated from Al-Mughirah ibn Subay', who was among the Tabi'in (successors), with an authentic chain of transmission to him: "Whoever recites ten verses from Al-Baqarah when he goes to sleep, he will not forget the Qur'an: four verses from its beginning, and Ayat Al-Kursi, and two verses after it, and three from its end."
