Is it permissible to take compensation from someone who stole money and squandered it, and is it permissible not to expose the thief?

Concealing the sins and transgressions of people is legislated, as long as they do not openly declare them, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever conceals a Muslim, Allah will conceal him in this world and the Hereafter."

However, for someone who is known for committing such acts, it is recommended not to conceal him. Instead, his case should be brought before the ruler, unless a greater harm is feared from doing so. This is because concealing him encourages him to cause harm, corruption, and violate sacred norms.

There is no impediment to taking the value of the stolen jewelry from her, as long as she has disposed of it by selling it and it cannot be retrieved. This is because something usurped must be returned to its owner if found. If it is not found and it is something measurable (mithli), then its equivalent should be returned. If it is not measurable, then its value should be returned.
