Is it permissible to print a Mus'haf without quarter-marks, or to change them, and did the division by Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Al-Thaqafi have any precedent from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) or his Companions?

The division of the Mushaf into parts (ajza'), sections (ahzab), and quarters (arbā') is a matter of ijtihad (scholarly discretion) and not a divinely ordained instruction (tawqifi). It is permissible to print copies of the Mushaf without these divisions, as the widely circulated copies of the Mushaf vary in the starting points of these divisions. There is no transmitted report indicating that this division, which occurred during the time of Al-Hajjaj, had any basis from the Prophet (peace be upon him) or his companions.
