The answer

The gold that was purchased is considered to have its year (hawl) revolve around the price at which it was bought. If a year passes on the money saved in the bank, the weight of the gold must be determined. If its weight reaches eighty-five grams or more, then zakat becomes obligatory on it. It is permissible to pay it in cash after ascertaining the market value of the gold at the time zakat becomes due. The (minimum threshold) for gold is eighty-five grams, and the amount obligatory to be paid is a quarter of a tenth (2.5%).
