Is it permissible to continue limited contact (daily rings and a weekly message) with a girl after repentance, and what is the ruling on meeting her for academic benefit only? And is it permissible to send her religious messages or call her just to greet, with the intention of marrying her?
The one who repents from a sin must not return to its causes. Continuous communication between a young man and a young woman under the pretext of asking questions, checking in, and calling to Allah is a following of the footsteps of Satan, as Allah Almighty says: "O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy." (Al-Baqarah: 168), and His saying: "O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - then indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing." (An-Noor: 21). If there is a sincere desire for marriage, then one must hasten to propose to her and conclude the marriage contract, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is nothing better for two who love each other than marriage."
