What are the boundaries for each party in the interactions between a father and his son, especially in disputes that involve curses and mockery, and how can one avoid disobeying parents?

Several texts have been mentioned warning against disobedience to parents, as it is one of the gravest major sins that deprives its perpetrator from Paradise. Forms of disobedience include reviling parents, or causing them to be reviled, or cursing them.

As for the rights of parents over their child, Allah has commanded kindness to them, and not to show them any displeasure, even by saying "uff," nor to repel them, but to speak to them with noble and kind words, to humble oneself before them, to be gentle with them, and to pray for mercy for them.

As for the rights of the child over the parents, they must be gentle with their child and treat them well, provide for them as long as they are young or poor, and not be harsh with them. The child is not obligated to obey them in disobedience to Allah or in matters that involve excessive, unbearable hardship.
