What is the way to reconcile "The Most Gracious will bestow upon them affection" with taking means to achieve affection after committing an overt sin?

The servant, when committing a sin, is obligated to hasten to repentance and remorse, not to concern himself with the view of people. If the servant repents sincerely and fears Allah, He will provide a way out for him. People quickly forget, and if the matter becomes difficult, one can move to another town.

Love from Allah has causes, the highest of which is faith. Allah Almighty says: {Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.} [Maryam: 96]; meaning Allah loves them and makes them beloved to His believing creation.

Do not worry about who saw you; people forget. There is no harm in informing him of your repentance if you are certain he saw you committing a sin, but this is not a condition. Be keen on the companionship of believers, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not associate except with a believer, and let no one eat your food except a pious person."

Seeking forgiveness is a cause for wealth, but it is accompanied by taking the necessary means of livelihood. Repentance and faith are specific causes for provision. We advise you that your primary concern should be repentance and the pleasure of Allah.
