Is marrying from abroad at a lower cost a suitable solution for someone who cannot afford a high dowry?

Islam granted women the right to ownership and made the mahr (dowry) her exclusive right, which no one is permitted to take except with her consent. Islamic law did not specify a fixed amount for the mahr, but rather left it to each person's financial ability, circumstances, and customs, stipulating only that it must have value. Texts have indicated the virtue of a small and easily affordable mahr, considering it a sign of a woman's blessedness and a marriage's auspiciousness, thereby facilitating marriage on the widest possible scale. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, advised against exaggerating mahr amounts, following the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions. Today, young people face difficulty in marrying due to high mahrs and expenses. Therefore, it is recommended for young people and guardians to cooperate in setting an affordable limit for mahrs. There is no objection to marrying from another country if it is easier, as long as the contract fulfills the Sharia (definition) conditions.
