What is the ruling on music, and have scholars differed concerning its ruling, and is one who follows those who permit it sinful?

The ruling on singing varies depending on its type. If it includes musical instruments, it is forbidden by consensus. However, if it is free from musical instruments and from meanings prohibited by Islamic law, then there is no harm in it. The singing prevalent today and what is broadcast by visual and audio media is absolutely impermissible, and whoever uses or listens to it is sinful.
