How much is the obligatory maintenance on the husband for his three children, two daughters and a son, knowing that his salary is five thousand and he has many debts, and what is the ruling on his 17-year-old daughter living with her mother and stepfather, and is it permissible for the wife to stipulate that the husband’s children do not live with her?

It is obligatory for a man to spend on his wife and poor children. The amount of maintenance is determined by the custom of the land and the financial condition of the provider. As for the husband's daughter living with her mother and being cared for by her stepfather, there is no harm in it as long as corruption is not feared, and the maintenance remains obligatory on the father. Regarding the wife's condition that none of the husband's children live with them, this is an acceptable condition according to Islamic law, but it is advised to forgo it and try to bring the wife and the husband's children closer together, as this pleases the husband and strengthens the family relationship.
