What is the ruling on supplicating for everything that brings joy to the heart regarding worldly matters, whether big or small, such as supplicating for a football team to win, and is there a fear of the supplicant falling into sin or cutting off ties of kinship?

It is permissible to ask Allah Almighty for what the soul desires, as long as it is not a sin. There is no harm in playing or watching football, as long as there are no Sharia prohibitions involved. As for supporting football teams, wishing for their victory, and being preoccupied with them, this is something a Muslim should abandon because it may divert one from the remembrance of Allah and prayer, and it may incite enmity and hatred. Ibn Uthaymeen clarified that watching matches wastes time, attaches the heart to them, and poses a danger. He also stated that praying for a team's victory does not appear to be legislated due to the Sharia violations present in the game in its usual form.
