What is the correct Sharia ruling, based on the Quran and Sunnah, regarding marriage to a girl with whom a relationship began through online correspondence, and is it permissible or not?

We must differentiate between two matters: Firstly, acquaintance and conversation between young men and women are forbidden and impermissible with the intention of marriage, because it is an exploration into an unknown world, tainted by a lack of seriousness and truthfulness. Secondly, if such an acquaintance has already occurred, such marriages are not recommended due to the absence of trust and necessary knowledge. Nevertheless, completing the marriage may be permitted in certain cases if the beginning was due to ignorance, a fleeting slip, or if there is a strong emotional attachment between the two parties that makes separation difficult, provided there is repentance and adherence to Allah's command.
