Is the questioner considered disobedient and negligent towards her mother, knowing that she has only seen her mother once, calls her monthly, and is unable to assist her financially due to her circumstances?

Being dutiful to one's mother is among the most obligatory duties, the greatest acts of nearness [to Allah], and the most important causes of Allah's pleasure. Disobeying her is among the gravest sins and causes of Allah's wrath. Therefore, you must be dutiful to your mother to the best of your ability. If you do not possess wealth, you are not obligated to spend on her. However, you should visit her, inquire about her, and contact her in a way that fulfills the conventional understanding of maintaining kinship ties. If you do this to the best of your ability, you will not be considered disobedient or remiss in her rights.
