Why was it said that "angels are the daughters of God" and that they are females? And who were those who said that? And are angels male or female?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The saying that angels are the daughters of Allah is a grave blasphemy, and it is among the fabrications of the Arabs of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). The Qur'an has decisively settled this issue and clarified its falsehood in many verses, among them His (Allah's) saying: {Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels with the naming of the female. And they have thereof no knowledge.} Angels are a creation of Allah; they are not described with masculinity or femininity, they are predisposed to acts of obedience, immune from sins, and they were created from light.
