What happened to Khalid ibn al-Walid on the day of Hunayn?

Khalid ibn al-Walid was at the vanguard of the Muslim army on the Day of Hunayn, and he sustained injuries when Hawazin surprised them with their attack and ambushes. He quickly rose to fight, and after the defeat of Hawazin, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, presented him as a vanguard of a thousand fighters to Ta'if. Thus, he was the spearhead in the Battle of Ta'if, which extended from the Battle of Hunayn.
