Is it true that Omar, may God be pleased with him, broke his fast by engaging in intercourse, and is this permissible according to Sharia?

It has not been reported that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to break his fast with intercourse. However, this does not prevent a man from having intercourse with his wife after sunset before eating or drinking anything, for his fast is valid and nothing is incumbent upon him, because as soon as the sun sets, eating, drinking, and intercourse become permissible for the fasting person. It has been reported that Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) sometimes broke his fast with intercourse.
