What is the ruling on performing the 'Aqiqah for the second child when it was not performed for the first child?
The is to perform the ‘ for a boy on the seventh day, otherwise on the fourteenth, otherwise on the twenty-first, and if not, then on any day until he reaches puberty. If the parent is blessed with another boy, and it is possible for him to perform the ‘aqiqah for him on the seventh day, then there is no objection to starting with him, so that the recommended time for the second child is not missed. Then, if possible, he performs the ‘aqiqah for the first. But if the recommended time has also passed for the second child, and then it becomes possible for the father to perform the ‘aqiqah for one of them, then he should begin with the ‘aqiqah for the older one, due to the Prophet’s ﷺ saying: “Start with the eldest, start with the eldest.” If he performs the ‘aqiqah for the younger one, he has acted contrary to the Sunnah, but the ‘aqiqah is valid, and its permissibility remains in effect for the older one.
