How can the required remorse for repentance be achieved when one does not feel it, especially when one is lazy about prayer and postpones repentance? Is it sufficient to take the steps to achieve repentance even if it is not accompanied by heartache or pangs of conscience?

"Remorse is one of the pillars of repentance. Neglecting prayer is a grave danger, greater than adultery, theft, drinking alcohol, and taking a life. It is considered disbelief by some scholars. If it is indeed disbelief, then no exchange or ransom will be accepted from its perpetrator, nor will he be rewarded for any of his acts of obedience. Therefore, one must repent before it is too late."
