What is the view of Muslim jurists regarding intellectual property rights, such as trade names, trademarks, copyrights, and inventions?

Firstly: Names, addresses, trademarks, authorship, inventions, and innovations are private rights belonging to their owners. They hold considerable financial value and are recognized as such by Islamic law; therefore, infringing upon them is impermissible.

Secondly: It is permissible to dispose of a name, address, or trademark, or to transfer any of them for financial compensation, provided that there is no uncertainty (gharar), deception (tadlis), or fraud (ghish); this is because they have become financial rights.

Thirdly: Rights of authorship, invention, or innovation are protected by Islamic law, and their owners have the right to dispose of them. Infringing upon them is impermissible.
