Is it permissible for the husband to take his wife back into his wedlock, while the marriage remains a secret from his family, given that the wife still accuses the husband's mother of witchcraft and refuses to visit her or allow their daughter to visit her, for fear that her mother-in-law might bewitch her again, especially since the husband stipulated visiting his mother whenever he wishes and celebrating religious holidays with her, to which the wife agreed? And is the husband's failure to inform his mother about his wife's return considered an act of disobedience (ʿuqūq)?

If the mother rejects the wife's return, the husband should not take her back without his mother's knowledge and consent to avoid problems. If the wife accuses the mother of witchcraft without proof, the mother may be harmed. If the mother cannot be convinced, it is better not to take her back and to marry someone else. However, if the mother agrees, it is advisable to reconcile between the wife and the mother with wisdom and good counsel, and to seek help from righteous people.

One must avoid suspecting others without proof. Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin." (Quran 49:12). The husband must honor his mother and visit her without anyone's interference. The husband has guardianship over the wife. Allah Almighty says: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth." (Quran 4:34). Care must be taken to raise the daughter upon goodness and virtue, whether the marriage continues or ends in separation.
