According to the majority of scholars, a virgin (bikr) is a woman whose virginity (bikārah) has not been lost. Some scholars differentiate between a virgin (bikr) and an 'adhrā' (maiden). An 'adhrā' is one whose virginity has never been lost at all, whereas a bikr is one who has not been sexually penetrated in her front passage through a valid or invalid marriage. Some jurists have explicitly stated that if a woman is sexually penetrated (with full penetration) but her virginity is not lost, she is considered to be in the status of virgins. This applies to a woman whose husband had intercourse with her without full penetration, and her virginity was not lost; she is considered a bikr.
