The mother's right is immense, and showing dutifulness to her never ceases, no matter her condition, even if she were a polytheist or commanded polytheism. The duty is to show dutifulness to both parents, to treat them with kindness, and to obey them in what is good. It is not permissible to abandon one's father or to treat him poorly, for disobedience to parents is one of the greatest sins. Part of showing dutifulness to the mother is to advise her kindly, to forbid her from evil, and to gently and respectfully explain her husband's right over her.
