Is it permissible for a man to undergo a vasectomy to prevent conception if his life is threatened without it?

Islam encourages and promotes procreation for multiplication, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Marry the affectionate and fertile, for I will boast of your numbers before the nations on the Day of Resurrection." Nevertheless, if not undergoing a ligation procedure to prevent procreation poses a real danger to a man's life, and this has been confirmed by trustworthy doctors, then it is permissible for him to do so, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful."
